Nicole Havekost currently resides in Adrian, MI but received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Aside from her career as a practicing artist she also teaches drawing and printmaking at Siena Heights University and Adrian College. Nicoles "Candy Ladies" are dolls crafted from materials such as beeswax and candies ranging from Hot Tamales to candy corn. Her other sculptural work is also influenced by her fascination with candy but in the form of seed beads. Nicoles artist statement describes her need for an extended physical relationship with her work, thus her work moved from printmaking to sculpture. Through the manipulation of three-dimensional media she is able to imagine the interior of her body and give it an unexpected physical form. See the attached artist statement for more information on Nicoles process. |
