There are a few high-detail life sculptors out there that provide an awesome caliber of realism; sculpture so life-like that even under the closest scrutiny you expect it to move. This is true of the sculpture of Thomas Kuebler. Not content to merely capture the details of a face or figure, Tom strives to tell a story with each of his pieces. Tom says of his work: “I want to tell wild stories in a single three-dimensional vision…to create the character first and foremost, because, as they say, all of the special effects in the world can't save you if you start with a lousy script.” Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1960 to a ceramics teacher and a photo engraver, and coupling his artistic tendencies with a learning disability, Tom was encouraged to develop his creative skills. His first love being sculpture, he majored in art at Kent State University. Having been recruited by Good Displays of Toledo, Tom created Disney-like robotic characters, historical figures, boogeymen and more, not to mention working with anthropologists to accurately recreate our prehistoric ancestors. |
