Amy Philp

March 7th - April 25, 2026
Reception with the Artist: Sunday, March 22, 1-3p

After retiring from teaching English and literature, Amy began taking art classes. She found her home at Adrian College with Professor Pi Benio in the ceramics department. When the Adrian Center for the Arts was founded, she continued her studies and expanded her work while taking classes with Alicia Ponzio and Adrian Arleo. As a resident artist at the Adrian Center for the Arts, Amy currently teaches sculpting classes.

With regards to her craft, Amy states “I strive to express the beauty of the human form. The female figure in a classical, elegant form along with the tactile quality and sensuality of clay bring alive my passion for subtle, graceful expression in figurative sculpture. I strive to capture common spiritual and emotional experiences and life stages along with our shared fate with the environment and life on earth.

My art is informed and inspired by the beautiful poetry and prose that I love. The themes and imagery of great literature weave their way into my work with an emphasis on one’s freedom and confidence to pursue personal goals and passions. My artistic goal is to connect my work to the viewer through an intimacy with the subject.”
