Adrian Tile Project

Thursday, May 27th was a busy day here at Flatlanders! We were host to a casting project for 57 kindergarten students from Lincoln Elementary of Adrian Public Schools. Joining the children were their teachers Mary Thompson, Sherrie Wiedyk, and art teacher Diana Callaghan, as well as several parents.

The children made tiles from wax panels onto which they affixed gummy worms, plastic toys, and assorted whimsical items. We coated the wax tiles in ceramic shell, burned them out, and held a casting demonstration for the kids.

Ken Thompson greets the children as they arrive.

The kids and parents get to watch as Alan and Nate pour molten aluminum into the ceramic shells.

Alan explains the 'pouring pit.'" and "The kids enjoy refreshments in the gallery.
